Southern Women's Track & Field League Division 2 North fixture at Mile End on Saturday 26th July 2008

The combined Orion Harriers and Eton Manor "Forest Athletic" Women's & Girl's Track and Field team turned
in an excellent performance to finish third from ten clubs in the third fixture of the season at Mile End
and in doing so climbed the table two places to 5th. Remarkable bearing in mind Forest didn't contest the
second fixture. Had we done so Forest would be in the Top three and in contention for promotion. However
that's for next season (see previous report)! In this fixture it was again a 'small' but keen team with
athletes prepared to compete in 2, 3 or 4 events and only the shear weight of numbers in the VPH and
Ipswich teams put them out of Forest's reach in terms of match points on the day. For example, shortage
of athletes mean gaps unable to be filled in various events amount to over 100 points not competed for by
Forest. So - if you're reading this report but don't take part in track and field why not give it a try -
it's great fun and a great day out with great team spirit and all ages take part.

However - on the day what Forest lacked in numbers it more than made up for in quality performances and team
spirit.
In the Under 15 Track events our middle distance strength paid dividends for Forest.
The U15 800m saw a double 'A' and 'B' string wins for Lauren MacGregor 2.26.3 and Armanni
Antoine-Chager 2.32.0
The U15 1500m also saw saw double 'A' and 'B' string wins Jay Andrews 5.11.07 and
Ilayda Aktas 6.20.01
In the U15 200m - Lauren Pierra was 3rd in the 'A' string clocking 29.0 and Middle/Long distance specialist
Lauren MacGregor showed she can also sprint with an excellent 'B' string 2nd place in 29.5.
In the 4 x 100m Relay Lauren Pierra, Jay Andrews, Ilayda Aktas and Lauren MacGregor teamed up to finish 4th
from the 10 teams in 58.5

In the Under 15 Field events
Javelin - Lauren Pierra took an excellent 2nd place with a best throw of 19.07m
Long Jump - Middle/Long distance runners Lauren MacGregor and Jay Andrews filled in with jumps of
3.24m for 8th 'A' string and 2.84m 6th 'B' string respectively.
Senior Women Track Events: - 3000m - Sharon Bollister ran a perfect tactical race to win the 'A' string race in 11.24.8 and
Anne De-Asha was 2nd in the 'B' string with 14.22.7.
1500m - Sharon Bollister lined up again after a short break and rounded off a great day taking 2nd in
the 'A' string with 5.34.9 with Lauren Richardson finishing 3rd 'B' string home in 5.45.0.
800m - The very busy Rebecca Kipps lined up for the first of 4 track events taking an excellent
2nd 'A' string place with a time of 2.35.2
400m - Rebecca Kipps then took 4th place 'A' string with 65.9
200m - Jessica Kipps was 5th in 29.2
4 x 100m relay - Jessica Kipps, Kelly Chittock, Rebecca Kipps and Lauren Richardson were 4th in 60.2
4 x 400m relay Rebecca Kipps, Kelly Chittock, Sharon Bollister, Lauren Richardson were again 4th

Forest Women's team enjoy successful day in Cambridge
(Southern Women's Track and Field League Division 2 Saturday 31st May 2008)

The combined Orion Harriers and Eton Manor women and girls team enjoyed a good day of athletics at the opening
meeting of the 2008 season at Cambridge but were denied victory by a combination of injuries and absentees.

However members of the two Clubs were in good form and were able to come away with a number of wins and personal bests.
The highlights of the day were as follows:
Felicia Davies won the high jump with an great effort of 1.56m,
Orion's Clare Thurgood made a very welcome appearance and won the 3000m with a time of 11mins 20.9secs.
Natalie Harvey placed second in the Javelin with a PB of 31.12m,
Jade Campbell came in second in the shot put 'B' string event,
Orion's Lauren Richardson is enjoying her new found even and cleared a height of 1.80m in the pole vault.
The team rounded off the day by placing sixth in the 4x100m relay and a respectable fifth in the 4x400m.

Forest Women's promotion hopes end with a DNC at Ipswich
(Southern Women's Track and Field League Division 2 Saturday 28 June 2008)

Forest Athletic the combined Orion Harriers & Eton Manor AC women's and girls team's pre-season promise as one of the favourites for
promotion foundered at Ipswich when a combination of injuries and absentees of athletes competing elsewhere and holidays etc lead to
the decision that we couldn't field a team and did not compete (DNC). The withdrawal from the fixture means promotion is now impossible
for this season which is extremely disappointing. However with two more fixtures remaining Forest can show how good they are and next
season's team has the prospect of being even stronger when a number of Athletes will return from injury and University plus a number
of Juniors will become old enough and eligible to compete plus the prospect of talks with Ilford AC may lead to them joining the
combined team and replacing Walthamstow AC who withdrew after the first couple of seasons.

The Forest Women's and Girls Team can use the two remaining fixtures to climb the table to a respectable position and perhaps look forward
to next season with the anticipation and expectations we had at the start of this season as the prospect of promotion to Division 1 is
within our own hands. The team certainly has the potential and capability - it's just a matter of making sure we turn out all our available athletes.

The Forest Team could really benefit from more Orion seniors and juniors taking part. The Team Managers are Steve Kipps (Orion H) and
Pam Ackland-Snow & Steve Beckett (Eton Manor AC) and if you're interested in taking part contact Steve Kipps. The next Match is at Mile
End Stadium Saturday 26th Jul 2008.

SOUTHERN WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE - New Season Starts on Saturday 31 May.

The final Saturday of the month will see "Forest Athletic" the combined Orion Harriers & Eton Manor AC team open their 2008 season in Division 2 of the Southern Womens League with the first round match at the Cambridge University Track, after last season's great success, gaining promotion from Division 3.

The Forest Women's and Girls Team will be approaching the new season with great anticipation and even greater expectations as the prospect of promotion to Division 1 is within the teams sights and well within their potential and capability.

At the Southern Womens League AGM held in December a package of proposals to restructure and improve the League format and fixtures were adopted unanimously by all the League Clubs and for the Orion Harriers/Eton Manor - Forest Athletic team, it will mean that in the Second Division there will be just 4 fixtures this season instead of 5 but at each of the 4 fixtures all 10 clubs in the Division will be competing against each other at every fixture, so producing bigger meetings and a far better atmosphere at each fixture. The Southern Womens League will also be able to provide more officials at every meeting, as well as raising the standard of competition. The top two Clubs from Div 2 North, Div 2 South and Div 2 West will gain promotion to Division 1 at the end of the season.

The Team Managers are Steve Kipps (Orion H) and Pam Ackland-Snow & Steve Beckett (Eton Manor AC) and if you're interested in taking part contact Steve Kipps.
