HOW TO JOIN ORION HARRIERS... |
...and run in Epping Forest
Basically... JUST turn up at Orion Harriers Clubhouse
ask someone/join in.
turning up for a couple of training runs,
seeing if you like it, before committing yourself...
When's BEST? Chose:Man/Woman/Junior
Every Tuesday 7.00 and Thursday 7.00 in Winter
Senior men train on local-ish streets.
In summer, it's all Forest runs. Same nights.
We leave sharp from Orion HQ.
Chingford rail/bus stations are 8/9 mins walk away.
So arrive earlier - about 15 minutes?
Our women also run from Orion HQ
on a Wednesday evening, leaving @ 7.00pm.
Different women, running different speeds,
someone will help you find who best to run with.
There's about 300+ Senior club members -
maybe 80 women - the rest men,
There's changing rooms and showers -
so bring a towel, shampoo etc
There's ALL standards of runners.
You won't get left/lost in the Forest
or stranded in darkest Chingford.
Well... probably not...
Senior Annual membership is £45.00
(Second Claim is only £18.00!) -
and to help cover running costs
(no pun intended...)
you pay 50p each/every time
you use the club for a run and
£1.00 at non-league races.
During summer, training is in the Forest
- on dark winter nights it's all road work...
In due course, - when you need it -

Orion Membership Application Form! or
an Application Form for ALL the family!
Races are mainly Saturday afternoons.
Members, with club keys, run from Orion HQ
MOST days at ANY time,
but probably the best INTRODUCTORY time is:
Wed for a woman - Tue or Thu for a man.
(Check out our Training Page )
Sun a.m. is popular for long Forest runs.
Some women run with men's groups
on tue at 7.00pm. and thu 7.00pm
Some men run in Women's Wed 7.00pm runs
and our Juniors also train on a Wed.
So it's a wide range of standards and
Wednesdays are busiest.
There's NO PARKING at the clubhouse
There's some nearby forest parking
and good public transport to
Chingford train and bus termini!
There's loads of racing, if you fancy that!
Like Orion, other clubs we compete with
have some great running talent -
and occasional lack of it.
Even 'slow' runners take their place...
mostly in front of me...
Have a look at our summer
and winter fixture lists.
We're now in the WINTER season!
we have myriad races/training runs,
from 5k to 15 miles,
on trail, road, cross country and
horse rides in the Forest.
there's a similar mix of Forest runs
plus races on trails/quiet roads
in a Summer road race league...
which is nice.
