The Orion FifteenSaturday, 29th March, 2008 @ 2.00pm
Entries Close: Wednesday, 19th March
Founded in 1954... and also run way, way
back... ...we're talking Iron Age predecessors...
The race is held on the third
Saturday of March. Always. (Er... we've
agreed to shift it in 2006 for one year only to help Trent Park host a
Chingford League fixture on their only available date ...and... harruuummph!! again in 2007 and grumble grumble in 2008...) Upstart races have clashed only to see their
numbers plummet. London Marathon did. Once.
March 18, 2000 saw the 47th Orion 15. A fine
victory for Orion's Peter Tarrier! Then, due to Foot and Mouth, the
race was cancelled for the first time in 2001. In 2003, due to certain forest roads being surrendered to
cars, the course was changed so that it no longer ventured across
Woodridden, under/over the M25 and back. It's still a great course -
tho, in 2003, a certain Marshal Colin Lutman gave cryptic comments on his place in
it. | |
