History and tradition are important parts of what makes Orion such a special club. This year marks 100 years since the formation of the club and which makes us among the oldest running clubs in the world. 1911 was shortly after the 1908 London Olympics and was the year the Titanic was launched, George V was crowned and Roald Amundsen became the first person to reach the South Pole. The AGM decided: To celebrate our Centenary and to have an enjoyable year of racing and raise the profile of the Club and grow the membership to start building for the next 100 years. |
Proposed Events for the Year a self-guided, 15 mile XC Trail race DONE! Centenary Pentathlon day at pool + track for juniors/seniors. DONE! Formal dinner. Orion marked its 50th and 75th anniversaries in this way and we plan to do so, this year. Dinner will be at West Essex Golf Club on Sat November 26 with a guest speaker. Put the date in your diary now. Tickets cost about £50 per person - 160 LIMIT. Tickets are now on Sale - Please click HERE for the booking form. Dress code will be “red, black and white”. Hmmm Club party......informal.18TH September in NEW Clubhouse...Done. Centenary Fun Run. As part of the Epping Forest Festival on 4 September, we'd hoped to put on a centenary fun run, with music and fancy dress for those who want. The Corporation cancelled the Festival. Centenary Mobmatch. We're negotiating a Centenary Mobmatch date at Chingford V Blackheath, Ranelagh, SLH and Thames H+H. There will also be a Centenary multimob match against more local clubs. Other... things... The Summer 5 mile series, Fell race, 5ks will be branded 'centenary events', as will the 2012 Mercury and 15. We're also contemplating a self-guided, 15 mile XC race and an Ekiden style relay. We'd also like a good away race open to juniors + seniors that won't clash with our other fixtures. Can you suggest such a September race not far from London? Maybe Copped Hall Fun Run, September 25? |
